On the 27th of May 2026, the Chinese Wushu Delegates visited Perth, Western Australia. The
purpose of the visit was for cultural exchange and training. This followed the 2026 Oceania
International Invitation Wushu Kungfu Championships, that was held in Brisbane, Queensland
(21st-25th May 2026).
The Kungfu Wushu Western Australia Wushu Team hosted the Chinese Wushu Delegates on the
27th of May to conduct a wushu training workshop at their training facilities. This included a
coaching clinic for children and youth students, followed by an Elite coaching clinic for athletes
of the Australian National Wushu Team.
A second Elite coaching clinic for athletes of the Australian National Wushu team was held on
the 28th of May. The focus of the session was to help prepare Australian athletes selected to
compete at the 4th Taolu World Cup, Haikou, China, from the from 4-9th July 2026.
The Chinese Wushu Delegates together with members of the Australian National Wushu Team
had lunch at the Parliament House of Western Australia. This was hosted by The Honourable Ms
Sook Yee Lai MLA, Vice President of the WA Labor Party and Acting Speaker of the Legislative
Assembly, and The Honourable Mr Yaz Mubarakai MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney
General, Minister for Commerce; Tertiary and International Education; and Multicultural
Interests.
Members of the Chinese Wushu Delegates then visited The Chinese Consulate in Perth.
In the evening, the Chinese Wushu Delegates were invited to dinner, hosted by key leaders in the
WA Chinese community: Mr Roger Kwok, the Honorary President of the WA Chinese Chamber of
Commerce and Mr Teng Chen, Senior Vice President of the WA Chung Wah Chinese Association.
The Honourable Ms Sook Yee Lai MLA, and The Honourable Mr Yaz Mubarakai MLA were also
present. Several topics regarding wushu and wushu development in Western Australia were
discussed in detail. This included wushu in the Youth Olympic Games and Kungfu Wushu
Australia’s mission to introduce Wushu for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. The Ministers
commended on the efforts of Kungfu Wushu Australia and its achievements in Australia and
Western Australia. They expressed interest to support Kungfu Wushu Australia and Kungfu
Wushu Western Australia to host future wushu activities and events. The Ministers expressed
interest for future discussion with Kungfu Wushu Australia and Kungfu Wushu Western Australia,
and suggested a possible meeting with Kungfu Wushu Australia President Dr Zhao Ming Shao.
The Chinese Wushu Delegates successfully concluded their cultural exchange and training visit
in Perth, and departed for China on the 28th of May 2026, warmly farewelled by Perth members
of the Australian National Wushu Team.
